Rose of Jericho: benefits, uses and precautions

Jericho Rose is an ancient herb with many names such as Jericho Rose, resurrection flower, resurrection fern, resurrection plant, bitter coffee, bitter flower, hand of Miriam and hand of Fatima. This plant originated in the Middle East, where it is widely used as a traditional medicine to help with many health conditions such as period pain, joint pain, metabolic and respiratory disorders such as diabetes and bronchitis. People also use it in religious and spiritual practices to protect against illness and negative energy. Despite the plant’s many claimed benefits, there is little research to back up these claims.

Rose of Jericho (Anastatica hierochuntica) is a small flowering plant that grows up to 12 inches (30 cm) and resembles mountain grass due to its remarkable drought tolerance. In extremely dry climates, Rose of Jericho curls into a dry grass-like ball and goes dormant to protect its flowers until it receives water This repeated process of dormancy has earned Lord Jericho the name “Resurrection Plant.” The plant symbolizes transformation, regeneration and prosperity for members of many religions, such as Christianity, Santeria and India.

Rose of Jericho is consumed as a tea using seeds or dried leaves and flowers, and it can also be purchased as an oil or made into holy water. However, there is little research on the plant and its alleged benefits, so scientists need to do more research on the effects of Rose of Jericho on humans.

Rose of Jericho contains disease-fighting plant compounds known as flavonoids, specifically chlorogenic acid, quercetin, kaempferol, and luteolin. Studies indicate that these compounds may reduce inflammation, arthritis pain, blood pressure and blood sugar levels. However, researchers do not have enough evidence to say whether Jerusalem tea or its other forms contain enough of these compounds to provide therapeutic benefit. For example, Rose of Jericho contains less than 50 mg of quercetin per gram, which is not enough to provide benefits as doses of 500 mg and more are required.

Some people think Lord Jericho has anti-aging benefits due to its high antioxidant content. However, there is no research available to support its use in skin care products or home skin treatments. In addition, Jericho Rose is famous for its use as an emmenagogue, an herb used to promote blood flow in the uterus. A study conducted among 460 Malaysian women found that 66% used Jericho during pregnancy, mainly to facilitate childbirth. However, the study did not investigate whether Rose of Jericho actually worked for this purpose. Due to the unknown risks of taking Rosehip during pregnancy, it is best to avoid it.

People often use the Jericho Rose as a decorative plant and in various spiritual ceremonies. Many believe it brings good luck, enlivens areas of your life and protects you from negative energy or situations. There are few commercial products that contain Rose of Jericho, and most people prepare it at home by purchasing dried Roses of “Jericho flowers,” which are actually small bunches of the plant.

It is important to note that many products containing Jericho Rose actually contain fake Jericho Rose (Selaginella lepidophylla). So, if you are looking for the real version, look for Anastatica hierochuntica or A.

In conclusion, Rose of Jericho is an ancient herb with many health benefits.
